CONNECTED Vol. 1 Issue 1

Welcome to our premier issue of Connected - The FIT Library Newsletter. This once per semester publication will keep the FIT Library’s community connected to changes to our resources, services, personnel and events. Your FIT Library is a resource that we hope you remain connected to for access to a multitude of content that can enrich your learning, research and career, and make the difference in your current and future success. The FIT Library community continues to grow as we serve not just the current College community on our campus, but alumni, SUNY constituents, and the general public, from Manhattan to international researchers that seek our resources.

Our biggest news this fall is changes to our Library space! Top billing is certainly the expansion and complete renovation of the Special Collections and College Archives Unit. On October 2nd, we will be having an official ribbon-cutting, and scheduled tours will be offered throughout the fall of this magnificent over-four-million-dollar project. Samuel Anderson Architects, working with Professors Trivette and Bradeen, have created a facility that protects and preserves our rare material collections with state of the art storage, new unit offices, and a reading room, to permit operations seven days a week for students and researchers.

On behalf of our amazing Library team of over 55 individuals, both Greta and I look forward to you catching up on Library news in Connected - The FIT Library Newsletter.

Periodicals & Electronic Resources Services Unit (PERS)

Our PERS unit moved from the 6th to 4th floor of the Library. We relocated all of our magazines, newspapers, fashion and trend forecasting materials, look books, color specifiers, and auction catalogs.

The new location places PERS in proximity to Special Collections and College Archives, embracing the synergy between each unit’s unique materials.

The new PERS space includes a reading room that accommodates 25 patrons, and access to a dedicated classroom for forecast orientation sessions. We have an expanded periodicals display area, highlighting current periodicals to better enhance access to our collections.
